2022 HOME TRENDS
Now that we are already a month and half into 2022, I’m excited to take a minute to pause and get a perspective on some of my favorite design trends that I’m seeing this year. It’s always interesting to see different trends start to take shape the year before, but then come into the new year with a bang. Some of the trends, I absolutely adore and want to incorporate everywhere I possibly can. While others I notice, take note of, and appreciate for others’ homes. Whether they are my favorite or not, these trends are making a splash this year and you’ll want to make sure you’re paying attention to how they unfold.
Top colors
So long to the all white trend. We are beginning to see quite a shift into color tones that bring out the character of the home and the people that live there. Greens of all shades are making a statement and are absolutely changing the game. Whether it be on a wall, ceiling, trim or kitchen, you will be seeing a lot of my personal favorite color!
Blacks and browns are also here to have a 2022 moment. Whereas 2021 secondary rooms saw creative color hues, this year we are getting bold, taking the plunge and adding these colors in focal rooms. If you are stuck on white, make sure it is creamy and pair it with an earthy palette. The more earth tones the better!

Something old, something new
Can you say VINTAGE!! Whether you live in an older home, or you’re a sucker for vintage furniture and decor, EVERY home in 2022 is mixing things up. Products are beginning to be designed with a vintage twist—lighting, rugs, wall art, and more. It’s been interesting to see the shift in style lean a bit more eclectic with a mix of old and new. Even when it is new, sometimes it has the look of being old. I’m a big fan of pulling in keepsakes and family heirlooms to pull together a look of a home. It helps to create that sense of home, while adding in a twist of your “up-to-date” style.

hello multifunctionality
Over the last two years, many homes have now become where families live, work, and play. Although open concept living spaces are still a big hit in the housing market, I believe that we will begin to see a shift to a bit more separation. Think kitchen + living space open, but rooms off of the main entertainment spaces for offices, playrooms, and more.
Similar to neutral paint colors and cabinetry, this design concept will most likely take a longer period of time to transition out of 100% open concept into more compartmentalized, private spaces. Personally, I’m open to both. I prefer to have wider archways for visibility and sightline, but I also enjoy designated layouts for activities and furniture arrangement.

All about those heavy patterns
Wallpaper has been making a BIG appearance as of late! If you’ve been following along in my stories, I'm jumping on the bandwagon and will be adding a fun splash of wallpaper to my entry way. It gives a room a fun twist through the visual stimulation of colors, shapes and sizes. I personally enjoy wallpaper in smaller moments such as an entryway, powder room, or dining room. These rooms feel a bit more intimate and always take on a dramatic effect of wallpaper well.
If wallpaper isn’t your thing, contrasted ceilings and trim are still making a move into 2022, through the use of paint. No matter what the application material is, I am betting that you will start picking up on a lot of contrast color block statements. My personal preference would be to lean in with paint first in larger rooms. The application is easier and is easier to change if you decide to pivot.

Upgrade to cozy
Home has become each of our sanctuaries over the course of 2022 and beyond. The number of hours we’ve been spending inside our homes has increased substantially, and therefore the importance of our “cozy” spaces we retreat have evolved. By creating warmth through the use of textiles, paint colors, lighting and candles, you will continue to see a rise in cozy upgrades throughout homes. I’m seeing the largest impact on bedrooms first and foremost, as well as family rooms and bathrooms. Think plush towels, bath mats, throw blankets, and pillows. The cozier the better and it will come with ZERO complaints. Get your home feeling zen and relaxing.

all natural
Earthy colors, natural materials, and indoor-outdoor spaces will dominate in 2022. The more time we are staying at home and indoors, the more we are craving to bring nature inside our homes. Think plants, natural woods, and sustainable choices as a nod to nature through design. By bringing mother nature inside your home, it gives us a sense of feeling a bit more grounded in a world where we feel a bit less control than we’d like as of late.
Outdoor entertaining and landscaping is also going to play a big role in this “all natural” focus. Whether you have a green thumb, or plan to hire out some gardening, you will see a big splash in 2022 outdoor living spaces playing a much larger role of design trends than in years past.
