Even though white is viewed as a basic color, there are so many different options and tones of white that can have a big impact on a living space. I personally love to use white as my base for most living spaces and then sprinkle in color through the use of furniture, decor and plants. It allows for an easy flow and magnifies natural light reflection. To help you narrow down all of the white options you may come across, I’ve outlined my top four favorite picks. Also, it might be helpful to first read how to choose what color to paint each room in your home.

If you’re looking for a white that plays well with others, look no further. Swiss coffee is a warm and inviting white that pairs with warm hues quite well. It also looks great with golden, brass, and bronze accents. No matter the pairing, Swiss Coffee makes designing a room around it’s base stress free and easy. Designers like Studio McGee use this color often and tend to pull back on the strength by purchasing the color at 75% strength. This is something that I’ve done with a few of my personal paint colors as well, and helps reduce the strength of some of the warmer undertones if you would prefer more of a natural hue. Creamy White | Benjamin moore
If you’re looking for a subtle cream tint in your white paint, look no further! Although beige is slowly coming back into style, I felt Benjamin Moore’s Creamy White was the perfect middle ground at 75% strength. It helps create a bit of contrast from true whites (my walls are Alabaster White in the kitchen), while still maintaining a neutral flow. I think it is a phenomenal option for painting “contrasting” trim if you want to dabble in that but don’t want to go too crazy out of the gate.
With these creamy, warm undertones, keep in mind what hardware and finishes you might be adding to the room. Quite often I see more of the yellows pull through if you don’t take everything into consideration from floor to ceiling.

White Dove | Benjamin Moore
One of my favorite whites that I will most likely use on my next project is White Dove. This white has a cooler, grey undertone that feels classic, yet elevated all in one. It is a gorgeous white that helps reflect light wonderfully, and carries well throughout open living spaces. If you’re looking for a top contender in any style of home, I would lean towards White Dove out of the gate and test it across multiple walls. It illuminates a room beautifully and doesn’t pull through yellow undertones.

Alabaster | Sherwin Williams
Last, but not least, my personal favorite. If you’ve been following me for some time, you know that I used Alabaster not only on my duplex, but also across my new house. It is the perfect white neutral that creates a warm hue, without going too creamy in my opinion. I personally love the look more at my house with white trim vs. my duplex’s dark wood trim and orange oak floors. Although it still looked great at the duplex, I notice a big difference in the paint tone that shines through with less wood undertones. The light reflection is wonderful and I will be an Alabaster lifer.
