Clean Beauty Review: My New Favorite Makeup Brands
Can I get a hell yeah for clean beauty products!!
If I was in a relationship I would be saying that I’m having an affair, but since I’m free as a bird, this is fair game! What might I be talking about? My new favorite makeup brands of course silly!
Thanks to a couple of influencers that I follow such as Wit & Delight, I took the plunge and decided to check out two new brands: Ilia and Merit. The moment someone has good things to say about clean beauty products, I am all ears.
On top of that, these brands showcase the importance of natural beauty. I love applying makeup to help highlight my look, but by no means overindulge. These two brands support what I like to call an “elevated minimalist” look. They give your skin the perfect glow and finish that it needs while still allowing you to shine through. Quite simply, the perfect balance in my opinion, so I had to give them a try!
Ilia
Well, they didn’t disappoint folks! Ilia is hands down my favorite mascara I’ve ever used! Not only does it include natural ingredients that aren’t leaching chemicals into my bloodstream (harsh but true), but it also makes my lashes stand strong and tall! They look so luscious! You know the type of lashes a girls got to pay for these days. These are all natural though baby!
I am also in love with their tinted lip conditioner. It acts almost like a chapstick vs. a lipstick and for the brutal winters that I deal with in Minnesota, boy do I need any help I can get. Too bad it doesn’t have a little extra magic to turn one of these frogs into a prince for me. At least not yet ;)
Merit
And don’t get me started on Merit’s tinted lip oil called a Shade Stick. It’s light weight, easy application and teeth approved! No more over application needed where your lips dry out and the smudging causes excessive amounts of touchups. Gone are those days and I must say I’m in love.
I also very much love their Perfecting Complexion Stick. It helps me cover up some of my sun spots and leaves a “makeup free” look. I’ve got plenty of freckles to go around and don’t mind showing them off from time to time, but reducing the appearances of my larger sun spots is an added bonus for this girl. If you’re in the same boat, I highly recommend giving it a try.

TerraCycle’s Zero Waste Box
Outside of creating amazing beauty products, another reason I absolutely love Ilia and what they stand for is their recycling initiative. Not only are they working on the front end to make sustainable packaging decisions that are both good for the environment and safe for their makeup products, but they are also helping recycle your used makeup containers on the backend. A-M-A-Z-I-N-G!
How does it work you ask? Well, if you are a U.S. customer, you are able to mail in up to 5 empty beauty products per month. All you have to do is hop online, fill out a form for a pre-paid (yes you heard that correct…FREE) shipping label, and then mail in your items in a box or envelope. The best part is they don’t have to be just Ilia beauty products. You can send in any brand and they will dispose of them properly so they don’t end up in a landfill.
Clean Beauty
The last thing I’ll leave you with before I get off my soap box is the importance of knowing what’s in your beauty products. They need to not only look good, but also be good for your body. These brands are cruelty free, vegan, artificial fragrance free, sensitive skin safe, paraben free, and sulfate free. They’re built to shield skin from environmental stressors in their own way and look good doing it.
Be sure to read up on each brand as they do differ and strive to achieve their own mission in different ways. I’m just excited to sit back and watch to see how big they grow knowing the affect they’ve had on me in such a short time. With their affordable pricing, I will be making the transition to these two beauty brands as my go-to. Out with the old and in with the new!
Cheers to you and your natural beauty!
