How to Choose the Right Wallpaper

Calling all wallpaper lovers!! This one’s for you!
I personally have a bit of an issue with commitment. Whether it’s dating, purchasing a car, or anything alike…I tend to steer clear. That’s probably why I’ve taken a second to get on board with the wallpaper trend, but I’m reporting in to say, “I’m finally on board.”
I’m not going to lie though, I did research painters that could paint a mural or look-a-like wallpapers so that if I got tired of the pattern, I could just easily paint over it. Well, gone are the days where I think it’s too painful to apply or remove wallpaper. I’m making the full leap in and am excited for not only the print and pattern, but also the texture that it will help evoke on my walls. Don’t get things twisted though. I’m not going big or daring! Baby steps folks! Baby steps!
My design preference in general is fairly neutral. I prefer a space that can be mixed and matched with different design elements through the use of decor, pottery, lighting, furniture and wall art, while my paint color, trim, and windows remain a neutral base. However, in smaller spaces like a foyer where you don’t have much room for added decor, I think it’s a fun idea to give it a bit of personality with a texture or print. That’s why I’ve decided to wallpaper my front entry!
Wallpaper ideas for a small entryway
The fun part about doing a smaller space like an entryway is that the options are endless. You can be stealth, and casually tie in a subtle print that evokes some newness without being loud. Or you can go big and dramatic, with a daring pop of color and pattern. No matter what effect you’re going for, and whether you’re a virgin or a veteran, a small foyer or entryway is a great place to dip into your ultimate design style to take things to the next level in your home. I personally like the thought of having wallpaper in smaller, contained spaces. Depending on the pattern and color, I think wallpaper can look a bit busy if used in a larger room, and instead can be used in a more intimate location. This always for a room such as a foyer, formal dining room, or bathroom to have a statement moment, without being overpowering or excessive.

I am no expert on selecting wallpaper, but what I would say when it comes to any design decision is understanding what your anchor is. Do you have brass hardware, ornate light fixtures, detailed woodwork, moody hue paint colors, etc. throughout your home? Understanding what the wallpaper needs to tie into is the first and most important step.
From there it is all about understanding how the anchor and your wallpaper choice should coexist. Do you want them to collaborate together to tell a story? Would you like to highlight a color palette throughout the remainder of the house that subtly ties in? Whatever it may be, these are all understandings you should consider when selecting a wallpaper selection.

Whether you’re leaning towards nature prints, repetitive patterns, or rainbows, selecting wallpaper should be fun! Be sure to order a few swatches so that you’re able to test out the finish and fell in person, and don’t FORGET, place the swatch on each wall. Depending on your lighting in a room, colors and textures may appear differently whether it be paint or wallpaper.
